What can you get for fifty rupees? First of all, we’re talking about financial products like travel insurance. You can get an insurance cover of up to 10 lakhs from the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), and the premium can only be 49 paise, which is almost nothing.
When purchasing train tickets on the IRCTC website, passengers can select the “Travel Insurance” service as an additional add-on. If you choose this option when you book your train ticket, the travel insurance will be valid for all passengers who booked their tickets under the same PNR (Passenger Name Record).
Travel insurance coverage can only be purchased by citizens of India who book their tickets using the IRCTC website or mobile app.
The travel insurance international policy process is different. One can feel free to check with the insurer.
According to the IRCTC website, the insurance policy will pay for when someone passes away, permanent total disability, permanent partial disability, and hospitalisation expenses for injury in the event of a rail accident or other untoward incident. Additionally, it will cover the transportation of mortal remains.
The full travel insurance is up to 10 lakhs, which means that you would receive a cover of 10 lakhs if you pass away or become totally and permanently disabled due to a rail accident or any other adverse incident. *
In the event of a permanent partial disability, you could receive up to 7.5 lakhs as coverage. The coverage of up to 2 lakh rupees for hospitalisation expenditures in the event of injury is in addition to the provisions for someone passing away or disability. 10,000 rupees will be charged for transporting the remains of the one who’s breathed their last. *
IRCTC travel insurance: the step-by-step process to obtain coverage
Once you purchase a ticket, a passenger must select the travel insurance company and insurance policy option using the appropriate option. After that, they will receive the policy information straight from the insurance providers via a text message (SMS) and on their email IDs that have been registered. A link will be provided so that the nomination details may be submitted.
The passenger must fill out the nomination details at the respective insurance company website after booking their mode of transportation. According to IRCTC, customers cannot cancel their bookings after the insurance premium has been paid in full.
If the nomination details are not filled out, the settlement will be made with the legal heirs, according to what IRCTC said in the release; if a claim is made, there will be no premium reimbursement under any circumstances, including waiting. *
Children under 5 years old will not be eligible for IRCTC travel insurance plan coverage. The IRCTC has maintained a consistent travel insurance plan across all advertised ticket classes. *
The above procedure does not apply to the travel insurance international policy. Feel free to contact your insurance provider and read about the government policies of the country you are travelling to.
